Key Safety Tests

Heating Element Insulation

Toasters use exposed radiant heating elements. The insulation between the live heating element and the accessible metal exterior (crumb tray, housing sides) must withstand dielectric strength testing.

Crumb Tray Safety

Pop-up toasters accumulate bread crumbs near the heating elements — a significant fire risk. The crumb tray must be removable for cleaning, and the design must prevent accumulated crumbs from igniting during normal operation.

OTG Thermal Safety

OTGs reach internal temperatures of 200-250°C. The external housing surfaces (except the glass door and areas marked as hot) must not exceed specified limits during baking. Glass door temperature and labelling requirements apply.

Wiring Insulation for High-Temperature Environments

Internal wiring in OTGs must use high-temperature rated insulation since the appliance interior reaches very high temperatures. Standard PVC wiring fails in these conditions — high-temp silicone or PTFE insulation required.
