India's gold hallmarking system is one of the largest precious metal quality assurance schemes in the world — covering lakhs of registered jewellers and hundreds of Assaying and Hallmarking Centres (AHCs). The new Manakonline Platform will digitally transform hallmarking operations in a significant way.

Current Hallmarking Digital Infrastructure

The current hallmarking system at BIS handles:

  • Jeweller registration and licence management
  • AHC (Assaying and Hallmarking Centre) recognition
  • Refinery registration and oversight
  • Unique Identification (HUID) management
  • Market surveillance of hallmarked gold jewellery

The current system is one of the most heavily loaded BIS portals, with the Hallmark server alone running on 12-core vCPU with 56GB RAM.

What the New Hallmarking Module Will Provide

For Jewellers (Jewellers Registration Module)

  • Streamlined online registration and renewal
  • Addition/deletion of retail outlets through the portal
  • Change of status (Retail to Corporate) online

For Refineries

India's mandatory hallmarking scheme (Mandatory Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and Gold Artefacts Order) has transformed the gold jewellery market. With hundreds of thousands of jewellers and millions of hallmarking transactions, the digital platform upgrade will:

Implementation Timeline

The Hallmarking module (both Jewellers Registration and AHC Recognition) is in Batch 3 of the MOP implementation — going live approximately T+19 months after contract signing. The Finance and Accounts module goes live in the same batch, enabling integrated fee management for hallmarking services.
