The Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) system is central to India's mandatory hallmarking scheme for gold jewellery. The new Manakonline Platform will significantly enhance HUID tracking and anti-counterfeiting capabilities.

What Is HUID?

Every hallmarked gold jewellery item sold in India must carry a Hallmark Unique ID (HUID) — a 6-character alphanumeric code laser-engraved on the jewellery. This code links the specific jewellery piece to its hallmarking record in the BIS database, enabling consumers to verify the purity and authenticity of hallmarked gold.

Current HUID System

The current HUID system tracks every hallmarked piece through the registered AHC (Assaying and Hallmarking Centre) that hallmarked it. Consumers can verify HUID codes through the BIS Care app and website. The system has significantly reduced gold adulteration since mandatory hallmarking was implemented.

New Platform HUID Enhancements

Real-Time AHC Integration

AHC systems will be better integrated with the BIS central database, enabling real-time HUID generation, assignment, and verification without manual reconciliation delays.

Consumer Verification Through BIS Portal

Consumers will be able to verify HUID codes directly through the new BIS website/mobile app — getting complete provenance information (which AHC, which registered jeweller, which purity level) instantly.

HUID Analytics

The new platform enables geographic analytics on HUID data — identifying hallmarking patterns, detecting anomalies that might indicate fraudulent HUID usage, and measuring compliance rates across jewellery market districts.

Mobile App for Consumers

A dedicated HUID verification function in the new BIS mobile app will make it effortless for consumers to verify gold purity at point of purchase.

Anti-Counterfeiting Capability

The new platform's AI capabilities will be able to detect patterns in HUID usage that indicate potential counterfeiting — such as the same HUID appearing in multiple geographic locations simultaneously or abnormal volumes from specific AHCs.
