The Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is one of the most complex and critical modules in the new Manakonline Platform. For India's network of BIS-recognized testing laboratories — currently 413+ labs — this is the most significant digital transformation since BIS laboratories began computerizing their processes.

The current LIMS is built on Python/Django with MongoDB and MySQL databases. It handles approximately 20,000 hits per day at BIS's own laboratories.
One of the most significant new capabilities is automatic instrument integration. The new LIMS will connect to laboratory instruments via standard communication protocols (RS-232, USB, TCP/IP, OPC-UA) or via middleware/APIs. This means:

BIS-recognized laboratories are not just BIS's own labs — they include 413+ private and government laboratories across India. The new LIMS may eventually provide standardized digital interfaces for recognized labs to submit test reports electronically and track their recognition status through the new platform.
For House of Testing (HOT), which is a BIS-recognized laboratory, the new LIMS represents an opportunity for improved digital integration with BIS's processing systems. We are actively monitoring the development and will communicate with our clients as the interface requirements become clear.
LIMS is in Batch 1 of the MOP implementation — the earliest batch (T+13 months after contract signing). This reflects the critical importance of LIMS to BIS operations. The LIMS will go live before the main certification modules, allowing time for stabilization before the certification workflows migrate.
