BIS Data Migration: Preserving 16TB of Certification History in New Platform

The BIS Manakonline Platform project must migrate 16+ terabytes of certification data from legacy systems while ensuring zero loss of historical records that manufacturers, importers, and jewellers depend on.

Scale of the Migration

Current Manakonline database alone: 16TB. Additional systems (LIMS, Standards Promotion, HFMS) add several more terabytes of operational data spanning decades of certification history.

What Must Be Preserved

• All ISI mark licence records (history of every licence ever granted, modified, or cancelled)
• All CRS R-numbers and their complete application and renewal history
• All hallmarking records including millions of HUID registrations
• FMCS foreign manufacturer certification records
• LIMS laboratory testing records and equipment calibration history

BIS Responsibility in the Process

The tender specifies that BIS provides all legacy data to the System Integrator for migration. For new modules with no legacy data, the SI generates comprehensive synthetic test data for UAT purposes.

Migration Requirements

• Zero data loss
• Historical data remains queryable in new system
• UAT of re-hosted applications before final approval
• Data migration plan is an early deliverable

What This Means for Existing Certificate Holders

Manufacturers, importers, and jewellers with existing BIS certifications: your R-numbers, CM/L numbers, HUID records, and complete licence history will be migrated to the new platform. During transition, both old and new systems operate in parallel to ensure continuity. No action required from certificate holders.
