Floor Care and Cleaning Robots: IS 302 Part 1 BIS Certification

Robotic floor cleaners, floor polishers, and automated cleaning appliances are within the scope of QCO 2026 under IS 302 (Part 1):2024. This segment is growing rapidly in India.

Floor Polisher Safety

Floor polishers use high-speed rotating brushes or pads. The rotating brush assembly must be guarded to prevent feet or clothing from being caught. Motor thermal protection is critical — floor polishers are used continuously. The handle must remain safe to grip even after extended operation.

Robotic Cleaner Safety

• Battery safety: large lithium batteries in robotic cleaners (8,000-12,000 mAh)
• Charging dock safety: the dock charges the robot's battery and must be evaluated with the robot docked
• Drop detection: robots must not fall off stairs or elevated surfaces in a way that creates a hazard
• Brush guard: brushes must not entangle cords, carpets, or pet hair in a way that causes overheating

Wet-Mopping Robots

Robots that combine vacuuming with wet mopping distribute water during operation. The design must prevent water from reaching electrical components. The water tank fill port must not allow water to enter the electrical assembly. IS 302 Part 1 waterproofing requirements apply to the water-containing components.
