BIS Scheme IX — Conformity Assessment Scheme for Milk and Milk Products — is one of the most specialized certification schemes in BIS's portfolio. It is included in Batch 4 of the new Manakonline Platform, reflecting its importance in India's dairy sector.
Scheme IX certifies that milk and milk products (cheese, butter, ghee, yogurt, milk powder, ice cream, etc.) conform to applicable Indian Standards for composition, quality, and food safety. BIS ISI mark for dairy products assures consumers of authentic, quality-controlled dairy.
Dairy products in India fall under both BIS (quality standards and ISI mark) and FSSAI (food safety regulations). Both regulators conduct inspection and enforcement. BIS Scheme IX focuses on composition and quality standards; FSSAI focuses on food safety, hygiene, and labelling compliance.
