The Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2026 — issued via S.O. 1739(E) on 6 April 2026 — is the most recent and currently effective mandatory certification order for electrical appliances in India. It establishes mandatory BIS ISI mark certification under IS 302 (Part 1):2024 for over 90 product categories.
The QCO 2026 supersedes the QCO 2025 (S.O. 2232(E) dated 19 May 2025) and extends the implementation timelines. The QCO is issued under Section 16 of the BIS Act 2016 by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
All 90+ product categories must comply with IS 302 (Part 1):2024 — formally titled "Household and Similar Electrical Appliances — Safety — Part 1: General Requirements".
