IS 302 Part 1 for Food Processors and Kitchen Machines

Food processors, stand mixers, planetary mixers, and multi-function kitchen machines are covered under QCO 2026 and require mandatory BIS ISI mark certification under IS 302 (Part 1):2024.

Applicable IS 302 Part 2 Section

Food processors and kitchen machines fall under IS 302 Part 2 Section 14 (IEC 60335-2-14) — kitchen machines. This section covers a wide range of motorized kitchen appliances including food processors, mixers, mincers, can openers, and similar devices.

Key Safety Tests

Blade and Cutting Tool Accessibility

Food processors have multiple interchangeable blades and discs — chopping blades, slicing discs, grating discs, dough hooks. All these tools are sharp or have rotating edges that can injure. Key safety requirements:

  • The motor must not run with the bowl lid removed
  • The bowl must not be removable while the motor is running
  • The blade must not be accessible through the feed tube during operation
  • After power-off, the blade must decelerate to a safe speed before the lid interlock releases

Motor Thermal Protection

Food processor motors are heavily loaded when processing dense ingredients (bread dough, hard vegetables). If a hard object enters the processing bowl and jams the blade, locked-rotor current flows — the motor overheats rapidly. Thermal protection must activate before dangerous temperatures are reached.

Stand Mixer Bowl Retention

Stand mixers (planetary mixers) rotate the beater or dough hook at high torque. If the bowl becomes detached during mixing — by accidentally pressing the bowl release — the rotating hook can hit the loose bowl or fingers. Bowl retention security is evaluated through repeated mixing of heavy loads.

Splash and Ingress Protection

During blending and mixing, liquid splashes are common. The motor compartment must be protected from liquid ingress — particularly relevant when the bowl overflows or the lid seal fails to contain liquid during processing.

Deadline and Testing

Large enterprise: 1 October 2026. Small enterprise: 1 January 2027. Testing takes 6-10 weeks. House of Testing handles IS 302 Part 2 Sec 14 food processor and kitchen machine testing.
