IS 302 Part 1 for Dishwashers: BIS ISI Mark Requirements and Testing

Dishwashers — both countertop and built-in/freestanding models — are covered under QCO 2026 and require mandatory BIS ISI mark certification under IS 302 (Part 1):2024.

Applicable IS 302 Part 2 Section

IS 302 Part 2 Section 5 (IEC 60335-2-5) covers dishwashers. Both IS 302 Part 1 (general requirements) and IS 302 Part 2 Section 5 (dishwasher-specific) apply together.

Key Safety Tests for Dishwashers

Water Tightness and Leakage

Dishwashers spray hot water under pressure internally. The door seal, spray arm bearings, and pump seals must all prevent water from reaching electrical components. IS 302 Part 2 Sec 5 tests the dishwasher with the door opened mid-cycle and after door seal degradation simulation.

Heating Element Insulation

Dishwashers use an electric heating element to heat wash water and dry dishes. The heating element must maintain dielectric integrity even when immersed in water during operation. Wet dielectric strength testing is particularly important for dishwashers.

Pump Motor Safety

The wash pump and drain pump motors must have thermal protection. If the pump becomes blocked (by a utensil falling into the pump), the motor must not overheat to a hazardous level — the thermal cutout must activate before dangerous temperatures are reached.

Detergent Dispenser Safety

The solenoid or mechanism that opens the detergent dispenser mid-cycle is an electrically actuated component operating in a wet environment. Its insulation and reliability are evaluated.

Door Interlock

Opening the dishwasher door during a wash cycle must stop the spray arms and pump within a safe time — preventing hot water spray from escaping. The door interlock switch reliability is tested through repeated cycling.

Countertop vs Built-In Dishwashers

Both categories are covered under IS 302 Part 2 Sec 5. Countertop models connect to a tap with a quick-connect adapter — the water supply connection safety is an additional evaluation point for these models.

Deadline and HOT

Large enterprise deadline: 1 October 2026. Testing takes 8-12 weeks. House of Testing handles IS 302 dishwasher testing. Contact us to plan your certification.
