BIS LED Lighting Certification: IS 16102, IS 16103, IS 10322 Guide for Manufacturers
LED lighting products have their own dedicated BIS certification requirements under the CRS scheme. This guide covers the complete LED certification landscape in India for 2025-2026.
LED Product Categories and Applicable Standards
| Product | Standard |
| LED retrofit lamps (E27, B22, GU10, etc.) | IS 16102 Part 1:2022 |
| LED modules (non-integrated, for luminaire manufacturers) | IS 16103 Part 1:2023 |
| LED tube lights (T5, T8 format) | IS 16614 Part 1 |
| Recessed luminaires | IS 10322 Part 5 Sec 2 |
| Downlighters | IS 10322 Part 5 Sec 2 |

| Portable luminaires | IS 10322 Part 5 Sec 4 |
Key Tests Under IS 16102 (LED Lamps)
- Photometric performance: lumen output, colour temperature, colour rendering index (CRI)
- Lumen maintenance: L70 lifetime projection (how long before lamp reaches 70% of initial output)
- Power factor: minimum power factor required
- Harmonic current emissions
- Safety: insulation, earthing (if applicable), thermal
BEE Star Rating for LED Products
LED lamps and luminaires also require BEE star rating (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) — a separate mandatory requirement. BIS certification under IS 16102 and BEE star rating are both required. They are tested separately under different standards.
LED Driver (SMPS) Certification
The LED driver (power supply) embedded in or supplied with LED products requires separate IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 certification if it is not integrated as part of the lamp or luminaire. Integrated LED drivers are tested as part of the lamp/luminaire system.
