BIS Consumer Awareness: Using BIS Care App to Verify Products

The BIS Care app is India's official consumer tool for verifying the authenticity of BIS-certified products. This article explains how consumers and businesses can use it to protect themselves from counterfeit or non-compliant products.

What Is the BIS Care App?

BIS Care is an official mobile application developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards, available free on Android (Google Play) and iOS (App Store). It serves two primary functions:

  • Product verification: Check if a product's BIS certification is genuine and current
  • Complaint filing: Report non-compliant or counterfeit products directly to BIS

What You Can Verify on BIS Care

CRS Registered Products (Electronics)

Enter the R-number printed on the product. The app shows: registrant company name, product description, validity dates, and current status (Active/Expired/Suspended).

ISI Mark Products

Enter the CM/L licence number. The app shows the licence holder, product category, and licence validity.

Gold Hallmarking (HUID)

Enter the 6-character HUID code on gold jewellery. The app confirms the purity, the AHC that hallmarked it, and the registered jeweller.

How to Use BIS Care for Product Verification

  1. Download BIS Care from Play Store or App Store
  2. Select "Verify Product" or the relevant scheme (CRS/ISI/Hallmarking)
  3. Enter the R-number, CM/L number, or HUID
  4. Review the results — confirm name, product, and status match what you purchased

Filing Complaints Through BIS Care

If you find a non-compliant product — uncertified, fake certificate, counterfeit mark — you can file a complaint directly through the app:

  • Photograph the product and its markings
  • Enter product details and purchase location
  • Submit complaint — BIS receives it and investigates

For Businesses: Procurement Verification

Procurement teams should use BIS Care as a standard step when verifying supplier certifications. The app's real-time database connection means you see current status — not an old certificate that may have since expired or been suspended.

BIS Care as a Market Discipline Tool

The more consumers and procurement teams use BIS Care to verify products, the stronger the market discipline against non-compliant products. House of Testing encourages all clients and their customers to make BIS Care verification a habit.
