IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 Lab Testing Checklist: What to Prepare Before Sending Samples

Submitting samples to a BIS-recognized laboratory without adequate preparation leads to delays and extra costs. This checklist ensures your submission is complete and efficient.

Before Booking the Lab

  • Confirm the lab is BIS-recognized for IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 for your specific product category
  • Confirm the lab can test any additional standards required (IS 18112 for TVs, IS 16333 Part 3 for phones)
  • Get a written quote covering complete test scope
  • Confirm turnaround time and current queue length

Technical Documentation to Prepare

  • Product technical file: circuit diagrams, block diagrams
  • Component list with safety-critical component specifications and certifications (Clause 4)
  • PCB flammability classification documentation
  • For battery products: BMS specifications, cell certifications, thermal runaway test data
  • Rated specifications: voltage, frequency, power, current
  • User manual (draft is acceptable)
  • Safety labels and markings as they will appear on the product

Sample Preparation

  • Number of samples: typically 3-5 per model (confirm with lab)
  • Samples must be production-representative — not prototype units with different components
  • Markings on samples should reflect the final markings as closely as possible
  • Include all standard accessories that come with the product (charger, cable)
  • Retain at least one counter-sample for potential re-testing

Series Model Documentation

  • List of all series models to be covered under the lead model
  • Signed undertaking confirming series models comply with IS/IEC 62368-1:2023

At Sample Submission

  • Provide all technical documentation physically or digitally
  • Confirm the standard and edition: IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 (not IS 13252)
  • Request an acknowledgement of sample receipt and documentation

HOT's pre-submission review service reviews your documentation before formal testing begins — preventing incomplete submissions that delay your timeline.
