What is the BIS CB Scheme and how does it help with IS 62368 testing?

The IECEE CB Scheme (Certificate Body Scheme) is an international system for mutual recognition of electrical safety test results. India participates, which means CB test reports from accredited foreign laboratories can form the basis for BIS IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 certification.

How the CB Scheme Helps

  • A CB test report from an IECEE-accredited lab in Europe, USA, or China can be submitted to a BIS-recognized lab
  • The BIS-recognized lab issues an Indian certificate based on the CB report, supplemented with Indian-specific tests (deviations)
  • Eliminates the need for complete retesting — only Indian-specific tests are run fresh
  • Reduces both cost and time for foreign manufacturers entering India

Limitations

  • CB report must be for IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 (not older IEC 60950-1)
  • Indian deviations must still be tested in India
  • The final BIS registration certificate is still issued by BIS India

House of Testing processes CB Scheme applications alongside fresh IS 62368 testing. If you have a CB test report, share it with us for a gap analysis.
